The Maharashtra State Education
Department has announced the schedule and detailed plan for the Foundational
Assessment Test (PAT) 2025-26 under Samagra Shiksha. This test is an
important step toward assessing the learning outcomes of students from Classes
2 to 8 across government, local self-government, and aided private
schools.
📅 PAT 2025-26 Test Schedule
The Foundational Assessment Test
(PAT) will be conducted between August 6 and August 8, 2025. It will
include the following subjects:
- First Language (All mediums)
- Mathematics (All mediums)
- Third Language (English – All mediums)

Note: Both written and oral evaluations will be conducted. Oral
exams should be done individually after the written exam on the same day, or
the next day if necessary.
🎯 Objective of the Foundational Test (PAT)
The main aim of PAT is to evaluate
whether each student has acquired the expected learning outcomes of the
previous grade. Unlike board exams, this is a low-stress assessment
that helps teachers identify and improve the teaching-learning process.

- Shift focus from evaluation of learning to evaluation
for learning.
- Help track and improve student learning outcomes.
- Support effective teaching methods based on evidence.
- Help improve outcomes in National Achievement Surveys
(NAS).
- Enable action plans for students lagging behind.
- Provide data on grade- and subject-wise learning
progress.

📝 Assessment Guidelines
- The syllabus will be based on previous grade’s
curriculum and foundational competencies.
- Schools can follow morning/afternoon session schedules
as per local convenience.
- Test papers will be distributed by the State Council
of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Pune.
- Printed papers will be delivered to all districts by July
28, 2025.
- Schools must store papers safely to avoid damage or
leakage.
- Photos or distribution of question papers via mobile or
social media is strictly prohibited.
🔐 Confidentiality & Responsibilities
- Cluster heads, Education Officers, and Coordinators are accountable for secure delivery and execution of
the test.
- Teachers must not share answer keys or instructions
with students.
- Answer keys will be published online on the day of the
test.
- Teachers must check papers and enter the results into
the VSK (Vidya Samiksha Kendra) portal. Details will be shared
later.
- No disciplinary action will be taken against teachers
based on student scores.
🧑🏫 School & Teacher Instructions
- Ensure 100% student attendance during the test
period.
- If a student is absent, the test must be conducted on
the day they return.
- For students with disabilities, special accommodations
and assistance from experts must be arranged.
- Teachers should fill marks according to learning
outcomes mentioned on the first page of the answer sheet.
- Based on results, teachers must prepare and
implement an action plan to improve outcomes in upcoming assessments.
📍 School Visits & Monitoring
- District officials must visit all schools during
the assessment period.
- Random checking
of 10% answer sheets will be done for verification.
- Meetings should be held between district officers and
school heads for effective implementation.
